AG submits interim claim of Rs. 340 Mn to Oil Tanker



The Attorney General has submitted an interim claim of Rs.340 million to the lawyers of the MT New Diamond Oil Tanker's owners for the cost incurred on assistance rendered to the Ship and other related matters, AG’s Coordinating Secretary Nishara Jayaratne said today.

She said the Sri Lanka Navy, Air force, Ports Authority, Colombo Dockyard PLC, Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) and Sri Lanka Coast Guard had been engaged in the process of dousing the fire and the costs incurred by them in the process will be claimed from the ship's owners.

She also said Rs. 340 million was estimated as costs, as at on Tuesday.

Ms. Jayaratne said the damage caused to the marine environment will be assessed upon receiving reports from MEPA and added that total cost incurred by all stakeholders, will be assessed until the day the ship leaves the Sri Lankan waters.
