The people should keep in mind to follow the basic health guidelines strictly when preparing to celebrate the upcoming Sinhala/Tamil New year festival, Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) Assistant Secretary Dr. Naveen de Zoysa said.
Addressing the media he said after the New year celebrations, the COVID pandemic situation could become critical, if the public does not follow the health guidelines.
"The country still witnesses a considerable spike in COVID positive cases, as we are part of the global COVID pandemic situation. Therefore, people cannot continue their usual activities without adhering to health guidelines," Dr. Zoysa said.
"People should keep in mind to maintain social distancing, wearing face masks and washing their hands regularly. He also noted that if people follow these practices, it would help the wellbeing of their families and the country. It would also help minimise the COVID situation after the New Year season ends," Dr. Zoysa added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
