The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) announced to withdraw all coconut oil stock under the brand 'N-Joy' from the market, the CAA Information Department said.
CAA officials said the tests carried out on N-joy products yesterday (28) had revealed the presence of carcinogenic aflatoxin in the products.
However, a senior official of the CAA said that N-Joy coconut oil was made using local copra.
Following the instructions of Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardane, the CAA is conducting investigations to test all coconut oil brands in the market for the toxin.
Accordingly, the coconut oil samples under the name N-joy brand coconut oil was tested at the labs of Peradeniya University.
The second test carried out at the Institute of Industrial Technology also confirmed the presence of aflatoxin in that brand.
Following the detection, the CAA had decided to remove the coconut oil from the market.
