Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today came up with several situations which he said government was likely to face from April 4 to 11 as highlighted by some health sector officials.
"They had warned that COVID-19 would peak from April 4 to April 11 and therefore it is important to have a common plan, which the public and private sector stakeholders in the health sector could follow.
I urge the government to have discussions among all stakeholders in the health sector, produce or import of ventilators, masks. It must also ensure that there is sufficient beds in hospitals, initiate a private/public supply chain to supply essential goods and use even ordinary three-wheelers other than taxi service companies and introduce special laws as done by many other countries worldwide," Mr Wickremesinghe said in a statement.
"One must also consider the statement made by the GMOA where it said there may be some 500 cases of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka. USA has become a centre of the pandemic which is a shift from Western Europe. The situation in India should also be taken into consideration as it is our neighbor." (Yohan Perera)
