Sri Lanka Ambassador- designate to Dr. Palitha Kohona said that China presented a vast opportunity to Sri Lanka given its surging economy, astounding advancements in science and technology and agriculture.

“We should remember that China is the most lucrative market placed in the world today. We also should work hard to encourage more Chinese travelers to visit Sri Lanka,” Dr Kohona said after formally assuming duties at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing.

Addressing the Embassy Staff, including locally engaged staff, Dr. Kohona emphasized the need for all to engage proactively with the local authorities, as well as the Chinese community. It was important to develop links with the business community also. Our objective should be to further enhance the image of Sri Lanka in China, strengthen the Sri Lanka- China bilateral relationship, and promote Sri Lanka as a welcome destination for foreign direct investments, and also encourage bilateral trade links.

Dr. Kohona, was the former Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations (UN) from 2009 to 2015. Until August 2009, he was the Permanent Secretary to the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka and was also the former Secretary General of the Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process. He was, previously, the Head of the UN Treaty Section in New York till 2006, the largest arm of the UN office of Legal Affairs.

China is a friend to any country which allows them to invest and take over the country’s economy. They are the modern time conquerer as nothing is greater than economic power. Due to some greedy politicians, the people of SL will have to become a permanent slaves for China. China will only invest in those projects which they can take control as they know the financial standings of the country before they could offer any loans. Any projects loaned by China will be 99% handled by the Chinese workers. In other words, they use your greedy politicians to get an access to invest. They bring their own workers and tools and their workers salary will be pumped in back to chinese economy. Don’t take about gratitude as the word gratitude doesn’t apply in Chinese dictionary. How do you expect for a country to rule their people by their communism propaganda to do justice for others. The chinese in china have no access of the real world out of china unless they use the illegal VPN.
