Malaka Silva poses death threats to friend

The Thalangama Police today reported facts to the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court with regard to a complaint filed against Mervin Silva’s son Malaka Silva by one of his friends over death threats, OIC Chief Inspector Nalinda Dilruk said.

He told Daily Mirror that Malaka Silva had allegedly asked for money from his friend in June for the election campaign of his father.

According to facts reported to the Magistrate Court, initially, the friend has agreed to make a small donation to get the posters printed.

However, Malaka Silva has insisted the friend to give Rs.100,000 for printing of T-shirts.

The friend who has refused to give the amount has decided to gradually ignore Malaka.

When Malaka found out that his friend was avoiding him, he posted on his Facebook page on July 15, with a distorted picture of the friend, saying ‘this man has gone missing since the day I asked him to give money for the election campaign. Please help me to find him’.

When this was known to the friend through one of his friends, he immediately telephoned Malaka Silva urging him to remove the post. However, Malaka declined to do so.

The friend continued to remind Malaka to remove the post but he didn’t remove it. Then, his friend sent a text message to Malaka stating that he was not in a position to give money and this was a threat to him.

When this was received by Malaka, he posed death threats to the friend resulting in the friend lodging a complaint with the Kaduwela Police over the death threats.

Accordingly, police today reported facts to the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court.

The police officer said they would take pertinent measures to arrest Malaka Silva next week after examining phone conversations between Malaka and the friend.
