The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has launched an investigation to locate a suspect who had allegedly abducted and sexually abused a 13-year-old girl.
NCPA Chairman Prof Muditha Vidhanapathirana said the suspect, resident of Matiyagane, in Narammala had kidnapped the girl and then sexually abused her.
“First, the child was kidnapped on 14th of December 2020 and informed to the local police. However, then complained to 1929 hotline. The child was returned home on December 25. Then she was taken to hospital and was discharged on December 30 and police reported facts to courts,” he said.
However, the child was kidnapped again on December 30 by the same suspect on the same day, Prof Vidhanapathirana said.
Meanwhile, he said for the first time in the history of NCPA, he has appointed an “Authoized officer” over the incident to make interventions in court.
“For the first time in the history of NCPA , I have appointed an “Authoized officer” and appeared in a magistrate court on January 6 and took over the case,” he said.
“We have sent our police unit and the child was rescued on January 11 from the suspect’s house at Minikukula, Matiyagane in Narammala. She was then admitted to the hospital.
“The parents of the suspect also have violated law by providing their residence to commit this crime,” Prof Vidhanapathirana said.
The Chairman said that the suspect is currently absconding and requested public assistance to locate him. He urged the people to contact the NCPA police via 0112 77 9196 to provide information.
