New hospitals for COVID-19 patients: Army denies appealing for equipment from public

The Sri Lanka Army, which is currently engaged in improvising emergency Hospitals and Intermediate Care Centres to accommodate COVID-19 patients, denied social media reports that the Army had appealed to the general public to provide them with the required equipment for the completion of such projects.

The Army said some social media reports have gone viral naming a Senior Officer and mentioning a Telephone No.

"Yet, all those wishing to voluntarily offer assistance to these mega humanitarian projects of national significance undertaken by the Army at this decisive moment in whatever way possible are most welcome to do so by directly contacting either the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) or the Army HQ," it said.

The Army reiterates that no such public appeal has been made to this effect.
