Speaker Karu Jayasuriya is to summon Attorney General Dappula de Levera following a decision made by the Constitutional Council (CC) over the directive he had given to arrest High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya.

A statement from the Parliament Media Unit said some members of CC were of the opinion that the AG’s directive to arrest a judge would result in people losing their faith in the Sri Lankan Judiciary. (Yohan Perera)

Wow .... arresting him if he has done no wrong then it is wrong. But if he has done wrong he should be arrested. A man who has done wrong should not be allowed to go free because he is a judge.

Ranjan’s phone conversations was a mockery to justice. The arrest of a judge based on phone conversations even before they are scanned for authenticity is a joke. Sri Lanka judiciary is at crossroads. With the Swiss embassy debacle the world is watching. These is a very strong invisible hand and that hand need to be amputated before more damage is done.

It is absurd to think that an arrest of a High Court Judge would result in people loosing faith in the Judiciary. No, to the contrary it would strengthen the belief that, at last , the Judiciary is being cleansed of corrupt individuals who have been masquerading as honourable Judges for too long. We should salute the Attorney General for his bold anti-corruption campaign. Sri Lanka desperately needs honest and daring men of the Attorney General’s calibre.
