Students Union president, secretary arrested with Prabhakaran’s posters
The president and the secretary of the Jaffna University Students' Union had been arrested by the Kopai Police on charges of having in their possession posters containing the picture of former LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran, the Kopai Police said.
They said the posters were found after conducting a search operation in all faculties and hostels in the university.
The operation was conducted by the Army, police and the Special Task Force.
Several posters featuring the image of LTTE chief political strategist Anton Balasingham were also found during the raid at the main office of the Students' Union.
The suspects were identified as N. Diwakaran (24), the students' union President and S.Badilraj (23), the secretary of the union.
Among the suspicious goods, several pairs of army leather boots were also found, the police said.
The suspects are to be produced in the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court today. (Sithum Chathuranga)
