Three farmers in Thannimurippu in Mullaithivu had died when they were struck by lightning on Thursday evening (15). 

The three men were taking shelter under a hut in a paddy field during heavy rain when the disaster struck.  

The victims P. Suwarnan (34), a resident of Kumulamunai and Kanapathipillai Mahurin (35) from Wattrappalai in Mullaithivu. 

Mullaithivu police referred the bodies to the DMO of the General Hospital for postmortem examination. (Romesh Madusanka)
