Sri Lanka, with the support of the World Bank, would begin to restructure its water debt, Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Minister Jeevan Thondaman said.
“With the World Bank’s help, Sri Lanka will restructure its US $ 800 million of debt in the water sector and have access to credit enhancement schemes that will make new water projects transparent and affordable and put us on a secured path to achieve SDG6,” Thondaman said on X.

His statement comes amid President Ranil Wickremasinghe and the government representatives participating in the high-level session of the 10th World Water Summit, in Bali, Indonesia.

Moreover, Thondaman announced that Sri Lanka has become a founding member of the Global Blended Finance Alliance Initiative.
The alliance was launched at the World Water Summit, to mobilise world capital to fund the US $ 2.5 trillion gap in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and carbon neutrality by 2030.
