SLPP MP Uddika Premaratna was in focus in Parliament last week as he had brought 10kgs of Maize and handed it over to the House canteen to be cooked for the MPs.

The consignment was actually cooked and served at the Members’ Canteen last week.

“Maize is more tasty and nutritious than the imported dhal. We will be able to save a large amount of funds spent for the importation of dhal if we promote and popularise the consumption of maize,” the MP said.

The MP who focused on Anurdhapura District said the area had produced people with various skills in the past. “It was the people who made Sigiriya and the apparel industry existed long before sewing machines came into this country. Kuveni was found weaving cloth when she met King Vijaya.
