People will have to live with the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic for at least another two years and therefore, people should be prepared to adapt to Covid-19 conditions and live adhering to health rules, Health Ministry Spokesman Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara pointed out today.
Addressing the media, he said the scientists, who carry out researches on Covid-19 are of the view that if a cure is not found against the virus even during the second wave, a third wave could emerge in January next year, which is more dangerous.
“According to them, the virus, which poses a higher threat to the senior citizens and children at present, would show no mercy on other people as well in the third wave.
“Hence, it is absolutely crucial to adhere to the health rules in order to curb the virus, he said.
Dr. Bandara also raised the point that people in Sri Lanka would have to live with Covid-19 like other countries were doing.
“Some countries are marching forward with development despite the prevalence of Covid-19 pandemic in their countries. However, Sri Lanka has missed a lot of things including economic growth, education in between; we have to fill the gap,” he said.
“As we are well aware of Covid-19 conditions, what should be done is to return to our usual routine adhering to the health guidelines,” he added.
He also stressed that there is no magic other than to live abiding by the health guidelines.
Meanwhile, he said people were attempting to deceive the health and security officials but said “at the end of the day, it is the people who have deceived themselves,” he added.
“Therefore, dodging the regulations is not the solution for the virus but to follow the given health guidelines, Dr Bandara highlighted. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

The UK is hoping to have one not will have one. There are still carrying out efficacy testing which could even take 6 months. It is hearsay, not fact.

This is a great move and will lead SL to the right path. The above concept was accepted by countries around the world months ago and they have moved on a lot. SL definitely needs to catch up.

Very true! It's everyone's responsibility to adapt and be responsible. Open the country for tourism again and require quarantine, PCR tests, fase masks, social distance to reduce the numbers, have special opening hours in shops for risk groups only and continue life

For your information other countries with high incidence of COVID -19 locked down their countries for months to contain the spread of the virus during the first and second waves.

I see Dr Jeyanuwan here is a Doctor but I'm pretty sure he is not a virologist !. Virus just like other living things wants to live. for that reason virus needs to evolve. if the virus quickly kills the human host then virus dies with human. that's why virus most often evolves so that it becomes more VIRULENT at.the same time it become less Dangerous ( fatality rate goes down).

When it comes to implimenting the law, following the law people are Sri Lanka are disobedient and indisciplined. Neither do the police and law enforcement do anything about it. 10 days and everything is forgotten. Take seat belts, plastic bags, lane driving, loud exhausts, road discipline - everything is gone to the dogs. It's one thing to talk, another thing to impliment.

HA! HA!! HAA!! Yes, we should 'THINK' whether we could emulate other countries by adhering to health guideline. Forget the money needed to buy face masks etc. In the first instance, regarding "SOCIAL DISTANCING", is it possible in our buses or trains? How could people travel to work and back home. Even if we utilise more buses, then the roads are not sufficient this number of additional buses. YOU CANNOT COMPARE WITH OTHER COUNTRIES! 1.There are no so-called 'popular' educational instutions in all districts or prvinces within Sri Lanka. That is why there is scramble to get in to Colombo Schools. 2. Even if work from home is introduced, there is no internet facilities for many citizens. 3. Unlike the urbanised population, children in remote areas do not have access to internet to 'study-from-home' ONLINE! ALSO, please note other countries have locked down, when necessary. Australian VICTORIA area has come out of it whereas several countries in Europe are under lock down.

Reduce the price of Face mask and Sanitizer or give them at concessionary rates so that the poor can use them.

Sachi Kuhananthan, MD Friday, 06 November 2020 09:33 PM
There is no need to wear face masks and follow social distancing for most of the population who are young and healthy. In this population there are only very few deaths. Only the elderly and people with serious medical problems need to be protected. The infection should be allowed to spread in the rest of the population so that herd immunity will be achieved in few months instead of years. High dose vitamin D3 and Dexamethasone will prevent most of the deaths. Widespread testing and contact tracing is useless to prevent the spread. Only symptomatic people need to be tested.

Of all the comments, only one comment from Nihal which stands out. What is the point of creating doctors and putting them in charge of clinical medicine when they have no answers for Covid-19. Politicians all over the world ponder on this . Replace doctors with Scientists.

Atleast now stop all the dramas and open the airport, don't be like a frog in the well, try to learn from other countries how they are fighting the covid-19. Don't make the life of the people so deficult.

I heard similar story from a university professor in the USA. The vaccine testing to be completed in 2021 and another year (in 2022) for American people to accept the veracity of the clinical test results and take the vaccination. That means Americans will most likely be taking it in 2022. Not sure how long a proper vaccine reach Sri Lanka.
