Body of first Covid-19 victim cremated

The body of the country’s first coronavirus victim, Elangampedige Dharmasiri Janananda, was cremated under tight security and under international health specifications at the Kotikawatta crematorium a short while ago.

The 60-year-old COVID-19 patient from Marawila who was undergoing treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), Angoda, passed away yesterday.(Sandun Jayasekara)

In such an event how a Death Certificate could be obtained.

the process is handled by the government, the body cannot be handed over to the family for the usual process, hence the cremation.

Given that Sri Lanka has recorded just one death (as of 30/3), the authorities could have gone the extra mile to have the members of his family present at the cremation. Additionally, if the family so desired they could have had a small religious ceremony (my guess is that he was Buddhist). Yes, I understand the gravity of the situation, but, consider Italy / Spain. I trust his family would be greatly comforted at this time of immense sorrow.
