The Health Ministry could not deny the fact there were Covid-19 cases that could not be linked to any identifiable cluster, Deputy Director-General of Health Services (DDGHS) Dr. Hemantha Herath said.
“At present, there is a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country. The reason for this can be attributed to the easing of lockdown regulations,” he said.
“When the cases increase, there can be cases with no links to the prevailing clusters,” Dr. Herath said.
“We try our best to make sure that the cluster level is maintained. However, out of over 800 Covid-19 cases reported on Thursday, 50 to 60 cases are reported without links to the clusters,” he said.
Dr Herath stressed that this situation did not mean that the transmission level of the country had changed.
“If Sri Lanka has reached the community transmission level, the number of cases should have been double or more day by day,” he pointed.
Dr. Herath said the situation had not gone out of hand and added, however, the Ministry is on high alert on this situation. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
