Day II of CFW 2023 wrapped up last evening at the Grand Ballroom, Shangri La, Colombo. The event kicked off with Colombo’s favorite, Sonali Dharmawardene, literally bringing the house down with her stellar collection. Her collection this season was about supporting women, circularity, and creating meaningful fashion that is sustainable for longer use. She was followed by Indi Yapa Abeywardene challenging stereotypes and representing love with her ‘Rainbow Collection.’ Keeping to her signature of soft drapes and luxurious textures, it was a treat to watch her unveil her new collection. Using traditional ‘Dumbara Weaving,’ handblock printing, and hand crochet, Divya Jayawickrama showcased her collection straight after Indi. Next on stage was Sharmila Ruberu of Meraki who collaborated with global brand, Perfetti Van Melle to create an extraordinary collection titled, ‘Sensurreal.’ A tribute to powerful women with large hearts; to all the boss ladies - a celebration by Charini Suriyage, had the audience at the edge of their seats straight after the show break. This was followed by Dinushi Pamunuwa who unveiled her collection titled, ‘Beauty in Diversity,’ and Nilusha Maddumage, who showcased her collection titled, ‘Agara.’ The finale for the night was one of India’s most acclaimed designers, Suneet Varma, who also showcased at the first edition of Colombo Fashion Week in 2003. One of India’s foremost couturiers, Suneet Varma is a name that immortalizes glamour and timeless style.
