Sri Lanka-American Baritone, Actor and Filmmaker, Gehan A Cooray, most recently won the hearts of music lovers in Florida portraying the coveted role of ESCAMILLO the toreador in the Miami Classical Music Festival’s production of Bizet's French Opera, CARMEN. Fresh on the heels of playing this Dream Baritone Role, Gehan embarked on a Scandinavian tour where he had a musical reunion with the mesmerizing Norwegian Pianist, Torgeir Kinne Solsvik, who first collaborated onstage with Gehan a little over a decade ago.
These two international musicians share a versatility that few people in the industry possess, switching effortlessly from Classical Music and Opera to Broadway Musical Theatre, Hollywood Film Soundtracks and Popular repertoire, and it is precisely this musical virtuosity that they will lend on behalf of a most worthy charitable cause here in Sri Lanka, at a fundraiser concert, to be held on the 4th of March 2023 at the Bishops College Auditorium (7:00pm onwards).
This concert is the latest installment in Gehan A Cooray's CLASSICAL & COOL series, with Torgeir Kinne Solsvik's Nordic magic working hand in hand with Gehan's Hollywood Glamour, as the dynamic duo take Colombo's music aficionados through a journey spanning the Operatic highlights of BIZET, DONIZETTI, MOZART and ROSSINI, the enchanting Classical piano compositions of Norwegian composers GRIEG and TVEITT, plus hit songs from Hollywood Films and Broadway Musicals such as Lerner & Loewe's, Gigi, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Annie, Disney's - Alice in Wonderland, and Little Women. The multifaceted programme truly has something for everyone, appealing to younger and more seasoned concert goers alike.
All proceeds will be in aid of FRIENDS OF PRISONERS' CHILDREN, a very special organization which was spearheaded by Rev. Sr. Immaculate De Alwis, providing scholarships and all manner of consistent financial aid to underprivileged students whose parents are incarcerated for no fault of the children. Gehan and Torgeir decided to fly down from Los Angeles and Norway respectively, for the sole purpose of this fundraising event, which is guaranteed to fill your hearts and souls with some of the most glorious and transcendent music ever composed on earth, on top of making a very tangible and all-too-necessary difference in the lives and education of Sri Lanka's victimized Youth.
The Box Plan is now available at BISHOPS COLLEGE AUDITORIUM.
