In Memory of Annie De Silva: A Legacy of Compassion and Holistic Wellness Continues.

The Annie Prana Foundation, a new charitable organization dedicated to supporting women in need in Sri Lanka, will be launched shortly by its founder, Therani (Terri) Attygalle. The foundation is established in memory of Anne (Annie) De Silva, a visionary and compassionate leader whose life was tragically cut short in 2022.

Annie De Silva was an extraordinary woman who, despite living in the UK, always kept her heart in Sri Lanka. Her life was a testament to her deep commitment to holistic wellness and her unwavering support for vulnerable communities. In 2012, Annie made the courageous decision to permanently relocate to Sri Lanka, where she founded Prana Lounge; a wellness centre that quickly became a sanctuary for many seeking peace, healing, and community.

“Annie was more than just my cousin; she was an inspiration to everyone who knew her,” said Terri, Founder of The Annie Prana Foundation. “Her passion for holistic living and her tireless work to support those in need left an indelible mark on all of us. The foundation is my way of ensuring that her legacy lives on, helping to continue the work she began.”

Prana Lounge, which was established in a once-derelict building, became a hub of tranquillity where people could explore yoga, meditation, diverse therapies, and holistic healing. It was more than just a wellness centre; it was a community within a community, a place where Annie nurtured the bonds between people and fostered a spirit of togetherness.

In addition to her work at Prana Lounge, Annie was deeply involved in charitable efforts, particularly with organizations like the Women’s Development Centre and Emerge Lanka. She funded the education of four children, offered yoga classes for girls in need, and actively supported projects that empowered young women who had suffered unimaginable trauma. One of her most memorable initiatives involved painting the interior of a shelter for abused girls, where she encouraged the girls to participate, giving them a sense of ownership and belonging.

Tragically, Annie passed away in 2022 at the age of 54, leaving a void in the lives of those she touched. Despite the best efforts of many, Prana Lounge had to close its doors on June 30th, 2024, due to unforeseen circumstances. However, the spirit of Annie's work and her dedication to helping others will continue through The Annie Prana Foundation.

The foundation’s mission is to support and expand the initiatives that Annie was so passionate about. Key objectives include:

  • Delivering and expanding a range of training programs tailored to meet the needs of the local community, particularly in entrepreneurship and industry-specific skills.
  • Raising funds for the maintenance of shelters for abused and helpless women and sponsoring the education of their children.
  • Organizing workshops and support services to help women reintegrate into society and build a future for themselves.
  • Promoting strategic collaborations and networking opportunities to enhance service effectiveness and increase access to resources.
  • Providing a safe and secure environment for learning, working, and personal development.

Terri, who has lived in the UK for over 24 years but spent 14 formative years in Sri Lanka, has taken on the mantle of continuing her cousin’s work. “I woke up one day with the idea to form The Annie Prana Foundation,” she said. “Thanks to the unwavering support of friends and the Prana community, who have stood by me on this journey, we are now ready to continue the work that Annie started.”

The foundation is calling on all those who share Annie’s vision to join in supporting this important cause. “Please help us give these young women, who have endured so much, the chance to rebuild their lives,” Terri urged. “Together, we can make a difference and carry forward the legacy of an extraordinary woman.”
