More than 214817 persons belonging to more than 56803 families have been affected due to floods and heavy rain in Batticaloa, Trincomalee and several other districts in the island, while 3134 are currently displaced, the Disaster Management Center said.

Seven hundred and forty four families have been sheltered in ten camps in Batticaloa District and six camps are located in Trincomalee District which are providing relief supplies to those affected by floods and rain.

Hundred houses were fully damaged and 434 were partially damaged due to floods in Batticaloa and Kandy Districts.

Meanwhile 05 Sluice gate were opened in Rajanganaya tank, 02 Sluice gate were opened in Kalawewa. Tisawewa, Basawakkulama & Nachchaduwa tanks which were over flowing today. Fourteen families vulnerable due to flooding were evacuated to Weligolla Church in those areas. (Daily Mirror online)
