37 Lankans trapped in Iraq brought back

Thirty seven Sri Lankans, initially believed to be held hostage by Iraqi rebels will be brought back to Sri Lanka today, External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris said.

He told Daily Mirror that the Sri Lankans had worked in an area controlled by rebels, they were not held hostage though earlier believed to have been so. He said the Sri Lankan authorities were able to secure escape from the rebel-held areas with the support of Kurdish authorities.(Kelum Bandara)
