A total of 78 police officers attached to the various police stations in the country have so far contracted the Covid-19 virus, police said.
Majority of positive cases have been reported from the Western Province.
Accordingly, 162 police officers have been directed for quarantine centres while 917 police officers have been placed under self-quarantine.
The police stations where positive cases have been reported include Mirihana, Foreshore, Minuwangoda, Borella, Fort police stations and Colombo Crimes Division.
In addition, a police officer attached to the President Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) on Easter Sunday attacks has also tested positive for the virus.
The latest detection of Covid-19 cases was reported from the Borells police station where six police officers were infected with the virus following the PCR tests carried out on 13 police officers attached to the police station.
The operations of the police stations, where there were positive cases, were suspended accordingly. However, they were re-opened after additional police teams were brought in for duties. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
