Some 900 officers of the Presidential Security Division (PSD) have been moved to other police divisions on a directive by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to trim PSD numbers.
Accordingly, Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickramaratne informed the former PSD officers to name two divisions where they would be willing to work. Police sources said the IGP had ordered to move the 900 PSD officers with immediate effect on November 24 and had later adjusted the order allowing the officers to name two divisions where they would be willing to work.
Sources said the group to be transferred included two senior superintendents of police, four superintendents of police, five assistant superintendents of police and seven chief inspectors. (Indika Ramanayaka)
