With a funding of USD 17 million from the Indian Government, the Ceylon Electricity Board, the Sustainable Energy Authority, and the Lanka Electricity Company have jointly launched a solar power project to equip religious shrines across the island with rooftop solar panels.
This project was initiated under the guidance of the Ministry of Energy, which aims to facilitate a people-centric energy transition as part of a new era of progress.
Marking another step in this island-wide energy initiative, five-kilowatt (5 kW) solar panel systems have recently been installed at four religious shrines by project companies Premier Energies Limited and Access Solar Pvt. Limited.
To date, 2,572 solar panel sets have been delivered to religious shrines across the country. The Ministry also noted that a total of 3,500 solar panel sets have been imported to the island.
