The GCE Advanced Level and Grade 5 scholarship examinations will not be held as scheduled this August, owing to the syllabi were not fully covered to prepare for the examinations, the Commissioner General of the Department of Examinations Sanath Pujitha said.

He told the Daily Mirror that several rounds of discussions were held by the Education Ministry and the Examination Department is currently studying the feasibilties of holding the examinations.

The discussion was held with the Education Minister, Ministry Secretary and Zonal Education Directors following a virtual meeting with the help of ZOOM technology, he said.

He also said a collective decision was taken to assign more time for children to cover their syllabi by not conducting the exams in August.

However, still no decision has been taken on the announcement of holding the examination, the Commissioner General said.  (Chaturanga Samarawickramam)
