The police chief is reported to have immediately transferred an Assistant Superintendant of Police (ASP) attached to the CID.
Sources close to Police Headquarters said the decision has been made on suspicion that he may have aided and abetted the failed escape attempt of Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne alias ‘Harak Kata’ from CID custody.
It was revealed that the particular ASP, who had made night visits to the detained suspects at the CID, had discussed matters pertaining to 'Harak Kata's' case on several occasions.
It is also reported that the said ASP had requested higher CID officials to hand over the case related to 'Harak Kata' to him.
A senior police officer said the ASP had been transferred from the CID due to these reasons.
