Colombo, Oct 7 (Daily Mirror) - Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya has directed that minor complaints reported to police stations, which have not yet been investigated must be thoroughly investigated and resolved within two weeks.

Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said that the Acting IGP has instructed senior officials, including Provincial Senior DIGs, to implement a special programme to ensure this directive is carried out.

The spokesman said that it has come to light that a significant number of complaints filed at police stations remain either uninvestigated or incomplete.

This neglect could cause minor issues to escalate into more serious crimes and damage public trust in the police.

In his directive, the Acting IGP emphasised that police OICs must begin investigations immediately upon receiving minor complaints and ensure their completion within 48 hours.

He also instructed senior officers to monitor compliance with these instructions and report any OICs who fail to follow the orders.
