Russia-based carrier Aeroflot is willing to resume flight operations to Sri Lanka if the government assures that its aircrafts will not be detained again, an official said.

Sri Lankan Ambassador in Russia Janita A. Liyanage told Daily Mirror yesterday over the phone that the airline authorities had informed her of their willingness to restart flights between Colombo and Moscow upon assurance from the Sri Lankan side.

The Russian flag carrier suspended commercial flights to Colombo after a leased aircraft operated by the airline was grounded in Colombo on a court order. Later, the Attorney General intervened in the court case and got the enjoining order suspended.

The Sri Lankan envoy said the airline would wait till the court case is fully over.

“We had to work hard to convince the airline authorities,” she said.
