Due to high emissions of carbon dioxide (CO 2) and dust particles from vehicles and factories, and with the recent weather conditions, the air quality in Kandy district has gotten worse, Environment Ministry Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.
He told the media that the geographic situation in the Kandy district has caused an increase in air pollution.
The air quality in Kandy has worsened with the recent weather pattern, Dr. Jasinghe said.
"Air quality in Kandy was anyway not at a healthy level, but it has worsened recently due to regional pollution," he said.
Therefore, the ministry is trying to promote e-mobility as much as possible for transportation. However, deterioration in the air quality could affect the health of both humans and animals, Dr. Jasinghe said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
