All CEB TUs to come under one roof

In the midst of various controversies and conflicts in the power and energy sector, almost all the trade unions of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) that represent nearly 25,000 employees have come together to form a trade union collective under one roof, by the name, the CEB Employees’ Association (CEBEA) a top official of the new association said.

The President-elect of the CEBEA, Mr. Noel Priyantha, Deputy General Manager, Business and Operational Strategy of the CEB told Daily Mirror that 13 trade unions representing almost all the employees of the CEB had pledged to work on a common cause under the newly formed association with a futuristic view and for the betterment of the CEB and employees.

The objectives of the CEBEA are to make the CEB financially stronger, enhance low-cost electricity generation, provide electricity to the entire country at an affordable tariff, ensure highquality electricity supply and services to customers, maintain stronger relationships with external stakeholders, enhance employee engagement, achieve operational excellence with the state of the art technology and optimise the integration of green energy.

“We have witnessed numerous trade unions attached to the

CEB fight for their rights and to save the CEB from various calamities and threats from different platforms and that has hindered the trade union struggle. I hope the CEBEA will set a platform for trade unions to launch a stronger and united battle to save the interests of the CEB and customers from possible future threats,” Mr. Noel Priyantha stressed.
