Alleged misuse of Presidential Secretariat vehicles: Sajin Vass released from case

Colombo, October 02 (Daily Mirror)- The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court today ordered the release of three suspects, including former Foreign Ministry Monitoring MP Sajin Vass Gunawardena, from a case filed against them for allegedly misusing vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat during the tenure of Mahinda Rajapaksa, who served as President from 2005 to 2015.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali ordered the release of the former Parliamentarian and two others following the Attorney General's advice not to proceed with legal action against them due to insufficient evidence.

The CID had commenced an investigation into the alleged misuse of vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat during the Yahapalanaya regime.

Following the investigations, Sajin Vass Gunawardena, the Presidential Secretariat’s former Transport Director Keerthi Samarasinghe Dissanayake, Jathika Saviya - Gama Neguma programme’s Puttalam Director Sudath Subasinghe and Mohammed Ismael Ahamed Kabir, a Coordinating Secretary to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, were arrested in connection with the incident and subsequently released on bail.

The CID initiated investigations against Sajin Vass Gunawardena on charges of misusing 20 vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat.
