Colombo, September 10 (Daily Mirror) - The Deshapremi Janatha Balawegaya which is backing independent candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Presidential election, alleged today that the hidden message of NPP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake is that they will have to face a communal clash if they fail to vote for him.
“NPP candidate Dissanayake recently told a rally in the North that the Tamil community in the North should follow the voting pattern of the South and vote for him. He has said the Tamils in the north will have to face consequences if they fail to do it. The hidden message here is that there could be a communal clash if there is an ethnic polarisation at the Presidential election," Deshapremi Janatha Balawegaya leader Sugath Hewapathirana told a briefing today.
“It was the JVP which was behind the July 1983 riots though the matter is yet to be proven,” he added.
The Deshapremi Janatha Balawegaya which backed former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the 2019 Presidential poll is backing independent candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe this year.
