The Court of Appeal today issued an interim injunction, preventing the execution of the arrest issued against Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa and four others over the demolition of a historical building in Kurunegala, until the hearing of the petition filed over the incident is concluded.
The order was issued by the Court of Appeal two-judge-Bench comprising Justice (President) A.H.M.D. Nawaz and Justice Sobhitha Rajakaruna.
Five petitioners, including Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa had filed writ petitions in the Court of Appeal seeking interim relief to suspend the warrant issued by the Kurunegala Magistrate in connection with the demolition of a building with archaeological value in Kurunegala.
