’Army Chooty’ arrested for managing Harak Kata’s drug operations

Colombo, October 31 (Daily Mirror) - The Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested an underworld figure known as 'Army Chooty' who manages the drug operations of Nandun Chintaka Wickremaratne, alias ‘Harak Kata,’ revealing an extensive drug trafficking network.

The arrest of others, including 'Army Chooty' was made based on intelligence provided by the Sri Lanka Army. 

The suspects were found in possession of 7.4 kgs of heroin and 1.17 kgs of Crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘ice,’ valued at over Rs. 285 million.

The STF, conducting a joint operation in Piliyandala, seized the drugs and apprehended multiple individuals connected to the network.

Among those arrested were 41-year-old Omalpage Dhammika Saman Kumara and 53-year-old Kankanam Arachchige Sujeewa. 

The operation led to the confiscation of 7.415 kilograms of heroin, 1.017 kilograms of ice, a motorcycle and a lorry. 

Further investigations are being carried out by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB).
