A total of 2,496 COVID-19 cases had been reported from Colombo from the second wave of the virus as of yesterday and that more than 90 of them were employees at the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC).
CMC Regional Epidemiologist Dr. Dinuka Guruge said those cases were reported from Colombo 1 to Colombo 15 and majority cases were reported from Colombo North areas such as from Kotahena and Bloemendhal.
More than 800 COVID-19 patients were reported from Colombo North while over 500 cases were reported from Jinthupitiya area. At least 400 cases were reported from Borella area.
Dr. Guruge said most of the employees at CMC contracted with COVID-19 were attached to various essential services sectors, including the Department of Health, garbage collection and several other sectors.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
