Criminal Investigation Department officials today informed the Gampaha Magistrate's Court that the Attorney General’s Department has no plans to take legal action against six military officers including Major Prabhath Bulathwatta, in connection with the assault on former Rivira Newspaper Editor, Upali Tennakoon and his wife.
However, CID officials said the Attorney General has informed that indictments would be filed against Warrant Officer Premananda Udalagama and Army Intelligence Officer Lalith Rajapaksha in the Gampaha High Court for conspiracy for causing grievous injuries to Mr. Tennakoon and his wife.
The CID had requested the court that since the AG’s Department in writing had informed them that it would not take any legal action against those six officers, who are currently on bail, to issue a notice to release them from the case.
Accordingly, Chief Magistrate D.A.Ruwan Pathirana issued notice on Maj. Bulawatta, S. A. Premachandra Perera, Prabhath Duminda Weeraratne, Lasantha Wimalaweera, Nishantha Jayathilake and M.R. Nishantha Kumara to appear in the court on August 23.
