Colombo, August 6 (Daily Mirror) - The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) has decided to call a Sangha convention to bring the main political leaders together to announce a common policy, helping people decide on the next President.

Addressing the media, its Secretary, Galagodathe Gnanasara Thera, announced that a Sangha convention will be held within the next two or three weeks, with the participation of at least 5,000 Buddhist monks who are free from political influence.

He also said that in the 76 years since independence, various leaders have ruled the country under their policies. At the convention, each party leader—President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa, and National People’s Power leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD)—must present their policies to the Maha Sangha, he said.

"These leaders often announce different policies based on the situation and area, targeting the public. They should be accountable for the current issues facing the people, and the Maha Sangha will issue a questionnaire," the thera said.

According to statements and speeches by the main political leaders, the true burning issues faced by the people are not being addressed. People constantly hear leaders blaming each other for fraud and failure, the thera said.

"The public does not want to hear about constitutional amendments or parliamentary acts. They need solutions to their daily issues, such as managing expenses and their children's education,' he said.

Therefore, the BBS has decided to bring the main political leaders onto a single platform to announce a common policy, allowing the people to make an informed decision about the new President, he said.
