IndSri Ferry Service Pvt. Ltd Director, S. Niranjan Nandagopan told the Daily Mirror that the ferry service had to be suspended with the start of the monsoon weather.
“Last Friday (8), Saturday (9) and Sunday (10), we couldn't operate the service for the same reason. Tomorrow's (12) service will depend on the weather. Therefore, we haven’t opened bookings beyond November 16,” Nandagopan said.
He also mentioned that before the temporary suspension due to bad weather, they were operating close to full capacity, with nearly all 150 seats booked.
“Wave height and direction forecasts help us plan voyages. We rely on both Sri Lankan and Indian weather forecasts, as well as private sources like the Windy app, to decide if it's safe to carry passengers,” he explained.
The Meteorology Department also reports that the north-east monsoon is expected to become active by the end of this month and that the northern sea is likely to remain rough due to a developing low-pressure area.
