Bar Association of Mount Lavinia decides to refrain from court work

The Bar Association of Mount Lavinia unanimously passed a resolution to refrain from court work except urgent matters from 19th of Aug. to 27th of Aug. 2021.
Accordingly, the Bar Association of Mount Lavinia urges the judges of Magistrate's Courts, District Courts and Civil Appellate High Courts in Mount Lavinia to postpone all trial and calling matters during this period by way of notices.
The Mount Lavinia Bar Association further request to keep the lawyers' room and cafeteria close until further notice.
The Bar Association of Mount Lavinia said it compelled to take this decision after considering the prevailing situation with regard to the significant increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases and number of deaths, in order to ensure the safety of its members, staff members, the litigants and witnesses.
In a letter to the judges of Magistrate's Courts, District Courts and Civil Appellate High Courts in Mount Lavinia, the President of Mount Lavinia Bar Association Attorney-at-law Jagath Halpandeniya has requested to implement proper mechanism adhering health guidelines to ensure the safety of all stakeholders when the court work resumes.
