The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) warned the public to be vigilant when they receive scam messages claiming they have won prizes both in cash and in gifts and there is an alarming increase in such activities.
They said it has been observed that multiple scam messages are being received by mobile phone users.
Therefore, the people are advised not to make any payments or share personal information with these ghost elements to claim these fake prizes and gifts.
For that, a dedicated email address (scmalert@trc.gov.lk) has been opened to receive information on these scam messages.
"If you receive unsolicited messages enticing that you have won prize money or gifts purporting to be from mobile service providers or any other organization, please refrain from making any payment and refrain from sharing any personal information. Bu you could report such receipt of messages to scamalerts@trc.gov.lk where we could investigate the online scams which are on the rise," the TRCSL requested. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
