Widow of former parliamentarian Bharatha Premchandra today vented her anger on social media after the release of Duminda Silva who received a presidential pardon.
Sumana Premachandra stronngly condemned the government's decision to release Silva who was convicted in 2016 over the murder of Bharatha Premachandra and sentenced to life in prison.
She said, "The killer has been set free. The sun will not shine on a country that does not respect justice."
Sumana further said that Sri Lanka had transformed into a country that does not respect the judiciary by disrespecting the verdicts of the High Court and Supreme Court judges.
She said this injustice had taken place on the most auspicious day of 'Poson Poya'.
Silva left the Welikada Prison a short while ago using the back entrance clearly to avoid the large media entourage which was awaiting his release in the front entrance of the prison. (JAMILA HUSAIN)
