CCD arrests 16 suspects including woman in crackdown on organized crime

Colombo, July 21 (Daily Mirror) - The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) arrested a total of 16 suspects, including a woman, in connection with their alleged involvement in organized criminal activities.

Police said, the CCD initially detained a 24-year-old woman in Colombo 15 for suspected ties to the underworld. Subsequently, 15 others were arrested on charges of aiding and abetting her in organized criminal activities.

They were arrested as part of the special operation launched on March 19, 2024 under the 'Yukthiya' operation aimed at addressing the rising incidents of organized crime in the Western and Southern Provinces. 

Since its inception, the initiative has led to the arrest of 2,398 individuals as of yesterday (20). Those arrested include individuals directly involved in organized crime, as well as those suspected of aiding and abetting criminal activities.

The CCD, Matara Division Crimes Division and Western Province (North) Crimes Division are conducting further investigations into the suspects under detention orders, police said
