CID arrests NIE Director over Grade 5 exam paper controversy

Colombo, Sep 23 (Daily Mirror) - The Director of the Planning Division at the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Maharagama has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the controversial leak of the Grade 5 Scholarship examination paper.

Police said the CID is investigating the issue related to the first paper of the 2024 Grade 5 Scholarship examination.

The Grade 5 Scholarship examination was held on September 15, with 323,879 students sitting for the exam.

Prior to the exam, a practice paper containing questions similar to those on the first paper was circulated by a tuition teacher in the Alawwa area.

In response to complaints from various parties, the Department of Examinations has launched an investigation into the matter.
