CID searches for PC who aided ’Harak Kata’ to snatch SI’s firearm while in custody

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has released a photograph of a police constable to locate him for allegedly aiding notorious underworld figure Nadun Chinthaka alias "Harak Kata" to snatch a firearm of a Sub-inspector of the STF while in the custody of the CID.

Police said 'Harak Kata,' attempted to escape by snatching the firearm of a Sub-Inspector during questioning by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

However, the Sub-Inspector managed to prevent the attempt and the escape bid, and police have launched investigations.

The incident occurred on Sunday (10) when Nadun Chinthaka was brought to the CID for interrogation. The constable who assisted 'Harak Kata' had reportedly given several toffees, suspected to be mixed with alcohol, to the officers guarding the suspect. While 'Harak Kata' was being interrogated, he was taken to the toilet at his request and the police constable who helped the suspect had removed the handcuffs.

Police said several police teams have been deployed to apprehend the police constable, Ravindu Sandeepa Gunatilleke, who has gone missing following the incident.

Police said the SI is currently undergoing treatment for minor injuries sustained during the scuffle with 'Harak Kata'.
