The COVID-19 positive rate in the country has increased twice the rate of the patients recorded in the previous month, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) said.

GMOA Editor Dr. Haritha Aluthge said the positive rate was recorded at 3% following 100 PCR tests conducted in the country before January.

However, the  positive case rate has increased to 6% which shows the country is heading towards a dangerous scenario.

"There is an upward trend in the number of positive cases recorded in the past few days and also  outside the Western Province (WP).

The danger of spreading and infections have increased three folds than previously recorded from the WP," Dr. Aluthge said.

However, we have failed to control the spreading of virus to other districts, and we should keep in mind to identify our failures and act fast to control the rapid spreading, Dr. Aluthge added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
