Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardana said Caninet granted approval to import sufficient stocks of eggs to stabilize the market in the country until April 30.
Accordingly, permission was granted to import 42 million eggs for the requirement of the new year festive season. He also said that 18 million eggs had already been ordered.
In order to import this amount of eggs, prices have been collected from Indian institutions recommended by the Animal Production and Health Department and Cabinet has approved the proposal by the President to award the relevant procurement as recommended by the Standing Procurement Committee appointed by the Cabinet.
