Cabraal seeks CB governor post with Cabinet rank

State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal is reported to have sought the governor post of the Central Bank with Cabinet rank like in countries such as China, Singapore and Vietnam, the Daily Mirror learns.
He is tipped to be appointed governor of the Central Bank shortly. The Daily Mirror learns that he has sought the post with authority similar to that of a Cabinet minister in terms of protocols to enter into negotiations and take decisions in the money and capital markets, unhindered.
He remained the governor until 2015 during the term of then President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He now serves as the State Minister of Money, Capital Markets and Public Enterprise Reforms. He will resign from his portfolio as well as an MP soon.
Asked about speculation about his planned resignation, he said , "I will neither confirm nor deny it." (Kelum Bandara)
