Candidates who cross spending limit will lose civic rights: EC

Colombo, September 3 (Daily Mirror) - The presidential candidates who are found to have spent more than the allowed amount per voter, which is Rs. 109, will face serious consequences, the Election Commission said.

According to Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake, this includes losing their position and losing their civic rights for three years.

“Candidates must provide detailed reports of their income and spending to the Election Commission within 21 days after the election. These reports will be made public through newspapers and websites,” he highlighted.

He that if there are errors or false information in these reports, the public can report it to the police and take legal action against the candidates.

The Election Commission has set Rs. 109.00 as the maximum amount a Presidential candidate can spend per voter during campaigns.
