During the "Puluwan Sri Lanka" victory rally in Kattankudy, President Wickremesinghe addressed the hardships faced by the Muslim community during the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly regarding the mandatory cremation policy imposed by the government.
The President expressed regret for the pain and suffering caused to Muslim families who were denied the right to bury their deceased according to their religious beliefs.
The President said that a special committee will be appointed to investigate into those responsible for the mandatory cremation and said that compensation will be provided to affected families.
