A total of six suspects had been arrested for their alleged involvement in a training camp and connivance of instigating violence in the Kurunegala District, police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.
He said the suspects were detained at the Kurunegala Police Station.
The Police Spokesman said that three suspects had been arrested for taking part in a training camp which was held in a coconut estate in Alakoladeniya area in Kurunegala police division on May 9th after an initial investigation.
"One of the three suspects was the owner of the coconut estate and he was a resident of the area. Another suspect was identified as the coordinator of the training camp who was a resident of Thalgaspitiya, Ambakote. The remaining suspect was identified as the lecturer of the camp and he was a resident of Thihariya,” the spokesman said.
The three suspects were remanded until May 24 after producing to the courts, he said. Another two suspects had been arrested on May 11. One of them was an employee attached to the Kurunegala hospital and a resident of Thalgaspitiya, Ambakote in Mawathagama. The other suspect was a resident of Haliella, Ambakote area. The police had recovered a number of cash cheques which had been written to various amounts. The two suspects are being detained at the Kurunegala Police Station. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
